Darnell Started Teaching Dance At The Age Of 14
As a Dance Educator, Darnell has taught throughout the United States at multiple competitive studios, workshops/master classes, summer intensives, and public schools. As a dance educator, I feel it’s always important to make class accessible to every student. It’s my duty as an instructor to make sure every student leaves the class feeling accomplished in how they show up. It is also my duty to urge each student to hold themselves accountable and encourage them always to give their best effort. I strive to teach dance technique and attach it to philosophy so that students always gain something past the studio's four walls that they can carry to all corners of their lives. I approach all my lessons from a foundational level using phrase work as a facilitator to apply foundational techniques while also using movement to tell their stories. When we look at dance education there is often, so much structure embedded in it that it can restrict students from exploring creativity and suppress their artistic voices. I aim to break my students of that mold and mindset and allow them to explore and find new discoveries. I give them the allowance to make mistakes in hopes that they become fearless, that they become leaders, and that they show up 100% authentically themselves. I do this so they can realize how special their unique voice and artistry are, so that they trust in the stories that they are telling and ultimately, so they find the courage in themselves to tell them.
